Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after March of that year.

Victory also means he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one various events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

His defensive play style and frequent outbursts on court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour title, took control to push for a decider.

He saved four early break points in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
