The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, donated by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
